Important Safety Alert: Tourists Beware of Thieves in Magaluf

Welcome to Magaluf! As you prepare to enjoy your vacation, we want to ensure that you are aware of a serious issue: theft. Unfortunately, there are some individuals who prey on tourists in the area. However, armed with knowledge and a few simple precautions, you can easily protect yourself and enjoy your time in Magaluf.

We want to be transparent with you about the reasons why this problem persists. Unfortunately, there is a significant level of corruption among the local police, council, and government officials. This corruption allows a network of thieves to operate with impunity, year after year. It's important that you are aware of this so that you can take steps to protect yourself.

The thieves typically operate in several locations, including some hotels where young people stay, back streets off the main strip, the beach and promenade, and a small backstreet club called Mansion near Vista Nova. They usually start at 11 am and become more aggressive toward drunk tourists coming out of bars and clubs around 3 am.

Here are the specific locations where thieves are commonly found:

  • Outside some hotels where young people stay, including:
    • Martinique Hotel
    • Don Juan
    • Palma Nova Suites by TRH (Formally TRH Magaluf)
    • Sol Wave House
    • Samos
    • Magaluf Playa
    • BelleVue Vista Nova
    • Vista Sol Apartments
    • Cook's Club (formerly Honolulu) Hotel
    • Globales Torrenova
    • BH Mallorca Hotel
    • InnSide by Melia Hotel
    • Nikki Beach

They also operate in Santa Ponca and Arenal in Palma.

The thieves use a variety of tactics to rob tourists, such as pretending to be prostitutes, disguising themselves as "Looky Looky" men selling cheap items, and using the "lost friend" tactic to attack women using emotional reactions of their lost friend to lure them into isolated areas. In some cases, they will simply follow and hound their victims until the time is right to rob them.

To protect yourself, we suggest carrying only necessary items, staying in groups, avoiding isolated areas, and being aware of your surroundings. If you notice any suspicious activity, please report it to the police, although be aware that they may not take immediate action.
